Kl - Day 95

Arriving in KL. What to do, where to go? When on the bus, everybody suddenly turned around and stared at us, shouting something. Should we get off? Is this Chinatown? Everybody commenced repeating 'Chinatown, Chinatown', so we got off. When speaking to the taxi drivers we found out that apparently we where 'far, far from Chinatown'.  So we walked to the bus station and ate. Then we took a taxi.
Walking around Chinatown, trying to find a hostel.. everything full, until we got the last room in a place called 'Oasis'... yeah, that's not how I'd describe our room.
Chinatown

Latin alphabet! Feels like we should be able to understand, but we don't... except for words like bas - bus, kaunter - counter, ekspres - express. And tandas - toilet. Somehow it reminds me of Finnish, but it's possible that I've just forgotten what Finnish looks like...
Our cozy hostel. Oh, the irony, once again.

Sophia posing. Feels like China, feels good.
I adore this place! This is what we first saw when arriving in KL, at the bus station we walked to. You get a cup full of the best, warm, corn you can imagine, and cups of, for example, mashed potato. Best mixed together. Ahh.

IT lifestyle mall. Tried to ask if they had Polaroid cameras (didn't have time to buy one in Bangkok, been haunting me since) but the IT nerds behind the desks, didn't even know what it was... you wan't ipad? Ehm, no.

Blue Boy vegan restaurang
Halal candy (=vegan)
The place to buy your saris, sarongs, scarves, hijabs, Shaylas, Khimar, Chadors, Niqabs, and most importanly: Al-amiras.
Little India's night market. However colorful the merchandise may be, the people are still more so.

KL - Day 95

Goodbye short shorts, hello baggy trousers.
Out with the orange clad monks, in with the women in black veils.
Temples are exchanged for mosques. The hordes of backpackers are, to our relief, once again thinning out.
A happy reunion with the Latin alphabet (Bahasa Malaysia, but also a whole host of other official languages just as incomprehensible were thrown at us) and finally a warmly welcoming capital (Around 30 degrees centigrade is just about perfect). The diversity of the Malaysian people is stunning; Chinese, Indian, Malays, aboriginals and many more all share the habitat here in KL. There's China Town, Little India, a Korean settlement, just to name a few.
The people are colorful and so is the city. Vegan food is abundant here, so we're definitely enjoying ourselves. The view from KL Tower wasn't too bad either. And that's about all we did all day... Considering we didn't get up until 2pm, it was an accomplishment.
We're excited to be here, but our desire to ride the waves is growing intolerable, so our plan for tomorrow is to get hold of tickets destined for Mersing. The weather forecast doesn't look too good, but we'll give it a shot.

Kuala Lumpur, fast update - Day 94

We arrived in Malaysia this morning after one night in Hat Yai in Thailand. The border was crossed smoothly and all Malaysians have been really nice and helpful so far.
Since we couldn't decide if we should go to the west coast or the inland we settled on Kuala Lumpur. And on the way Ruut found this wonderful sounding island on the east coast where you can learn how to surf and scuba dive. So maybe there next?
