Last of Bangkok

 Many, many tuk-tuk rides...

People confuse R and S for sisters because of their skin colour. The fact that they dress in the exact same clothes doesn't help.
 Find Sophia, part two.

We wanted to see a movie and where looking for the "Entertainment Center". Instead we ended up on 'Entertainment Street'...  as foreign girls we where in minority.
ETHOS! This place made Bangkok our favourite food-city after Beijing...
...and just looking at the pictures hurts.
Our friends who almost made it here in time for New Years...
 Ruut and Sophia skype'ing.
This shopping mall was a bit too expansive for our budget... but we got to use the toilets for free! Luxurious.
This is what it felt like, when panic shopping for a dress for new years eve in Bangkok.
The city of taxis and tuk-tuks.

We posted some stuff.. should arrive in Finland in 2-3 months.
Our second favourite restaurant... with a vegan buffet! Ruut on her third plate.
...and the cook even stands for the entertainment herself!

...because every other place in Bangkok checks ID. Oh, the irony.
The guys working the night shift (10pm - 8am... for 7 years!) at our hostel. They had a lot of good stories to tell. Most of them containing a male farang and ladyboys...
 Khao San
 Bad idea.
The third floor balcony under the antenna - our doorm's. Charming place. Cough, cough.

Getting to Krabi - Day 89

..and then the camera battery ran out, but you can probably picture the three of us basically sleeping on top of each other on the last seat on the bus, being woken up to get onto another bus, then a minivan and finally a longtail boat taking us to Railay beach.

Bangkok - day 90

...so did we get tired of the backpacker playground, also known as Khao San road?
Oh yes. But luckily Bangkok is rather large and we've been exploring the city by tuk-tuk and skytrain... mostly seeing huge malls.
Now we feel like we've had enough of big cities though, and the beaches of Krabi are calling our names. 9 hour train ride this night, 3rd class, seat, fan. Tempting? Hardly. The cheapest option? Always.

ps. Yes, we publish a lot of very unflattering pictures of ourselves. But honesty last the longest?

Bangkok

Arrived in Bangkok two days ago.
Feels like we've left Asia.

The border... we're used to being a couple people walking across the border, and the no-mans-land in between is usually a field/ Now suddenly it was a town full of Casinos and we had to stand in queue with lots of other farangs. Strange.

The strangeness didn't stop there. The driving here is INSANE!
For the first time, there are actually more cars than motos. There are street lights. And guess what, the cars stick to one lane and use the blinker when turning or changing lanes? CRAZY! I bet most cars/motos even have headlights... and use them!
Traffic jam... getting closer to Bangkok.
Ruut 'enjoying' here pedicure
One of the reasons we headed to Bangkok for New Years - met up with the crazy Dutch from the Trans Manchurian!
The Dutch live in a fancy hotel with a swimming pool on the roof...
...and since our dorm beds aren't 'quite' this cozy, we decided to crash their room.
Sophia and Djeff on Khao san last night.
 Same street from above.

We live on Khao san road, also known as backpacker ghetto. This means music, bars, restaurants, ATM's, food stalls, cloth stores, hotells... all basically on one street. They do everything to make you think you'll never need to leave. Hmm. Let's see how many days more we'll think it's fun...
